Stephen Williams
Stephen Eugene Williams, 58, of Edmonds, Washington, passed away on October 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love, and lessons that will live on through the people who knew him.
Born on May 10, 1968, Stephen grew up in Longview, Washington, and later graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. Naturally outgoing and effortlessly funny, he had a way of making people laugh and feel welcome. He was stubborn as they come, full of personality, and never afraid to speak his mind. He loved people, he loved a good story, and he loved life.
If there was a country music concert, chances are Stephen was there. Music was one of his greatest joys, and he rarely missed an opportunity to see his favorite artists perform. He also loved the television series 1883, a fitting favorite for a man who appreciated grit, resilience, and a good Western story.
Stephen was a man of tremendous courage. During the tragic Route 91 Harvest music festival shooting in Las Vegas, he put his own safety aside to help others escape danger. It was an extraordinary act of bravery, but to those who knew him, it was simply who Stephen was. When someone needed help, he was the kind of man who stepped forward. Although he faced struggles, he carried a deep faith in God and a wisdom that could only come from a life fully lived.
Of all the things Stephen accomplished and experienced, nothing meant more to him than his two children, Madisen and Brady. They were his greatest pride, his greatest joy, and the most important part of his life.
To Madisen and Brady, Stephen was more than a father; he was their best friend, their greatest supporter, and one of life’s most important teachers. He shared a special bond with each of them, built on countless conversations, laughter, and time spent together. With his daughter, his advice often came in the form of a familiar “Pull your bootstraps up” or “Buck up, kid,” always followed by the reassurance of just how deeply she was loved. “I love you dearly, daughter,” were words she heard often and will carry with her forever.
With his son, Brady, some of life’s most meaningful moments were found in the simplest things, particularly their long walks around Beaver Lake, where they shared time, conversation, and a friendship that went far beyond that of father and son.
Stephen taught his children to believe in themselves, to find strength through life’s hardships, and above all, to hold on to their faith in God. His love, guidance, and wisdom will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
Stephen is survived by his beloved children, Madisen Riley Shepherd and Brady Charles Williams, of Issaquah, Washington; his mother, Catherine Williams, of Castle Rock, Washington; and his brothers, John and Courtland Williams, of Vancouver, Washington. He leaves behind family, dear friends, and countless others whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.
Stephen will be remembered for his humor, his stubbornness, his love of music, his unwavering faith, and the way he made people feel. He was a man who left an impression, who loved deeply, and whose presence could never be replaced. Although his time here was far too short, the love he gave and the lessons he taught will endure.
His greatest legacy will not be measured by the years he lived, but by the lives he touched, the people he helped, and the love he leaves behind.
The family asks that you please consider making a donation in Stephen’s honor to the Vegas Strong Fund, supporting the Forever One Memorial dedicated to the victims, survivors, and heroes of the Route 91 Harvest Festival tragedy.
Stephen’s family will also be purchasing a commemorative paver in his honor to become part of the permanent memorial, anticipated to open in 2027. This lasting tribute will honor his courage, compassion, and the extraordinary bravery he showed that night.
