Norma was a world traveler, a devoted Mariners fan, a believer of drinking only great coffee, and an accomplished NYTimes Crossword Puzzle solver. She joyfully made friends wherever life took her and she cherished those friendships, old and new. She will be remembered for her wit, enthusiasm, and contagious smile. Friends recently referred to her as “a kick”, “very intelligent”, “a character”, “caring and empathetic”, “joyful and friendly”, and “splendidly grumpy!”

Covered her life as I knew it, very well.

Norma was always so much fun. As my mom’s cousin, she played the role of an aunt very well and made every family gathering lighter and funnier for those around her. I always appreciated how she found her own unique path in life and supported others in doing the same. There was no other Norma in the universe. She will very much be missed.

Norma lived next door to me in Anderson Hall, the freshman women’s dorm at Whitman College, and we immediately became very close friends. That lasted forever although I haven’t seen her in in many years as I Iive in California. But we stayed in touch. She was precious and I’ll never forget her.

Norma was definitely one-of-a-kind person. The obit described her perfectly. She was a true Kang, well-liked by her classmates. When she was your friend, she was your friend. RIP, Norma.
