Paul Russel Measel, 89, of Bellevue, Washington, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 9, 2026.
He was born in Danville, Kentucky in 1936 to Bernice and Russell Measel. Paul graduated from Northridge High School in Dayton, Ohio, and earned Eagle Scout.
Paul married Jane in 1963 – 62 years! They met when a friend of Paul’s invited her along water skiing “because they needed a third person as lookout”. In 1967, he earned a PhD in Nuclear Physics from The Ohio State University, and they moved to Bellevue.
At Boeing Aerospace, he researched particle physics relevant to military applications, satellite communications, and Space Station environment. He retired in when he found out granddaughter Natalie was expected!
After retiring, Paul continued to enjoy flying gliders with Seattle Area Soaring Society and weekly chess games at Pacific Regent senior living community. At BelPres church he was a church Elder and joined church committees including Finances and Organ Selection. He enjoyed volunteering to teach weekly after-school (middle school) Robotics Club. He also volunteered for the Communications Support Team of the Bellevue Fire Department’s Emergency Management Office as a licensed Amateur Radio operator.
Paul is survived by his wife Jane Stansbury Measel, sons Eric (Jerrilynn) and David (Anne), and grandchildren Jake and Natalie (Noah).
A memorial service and reception are planned for May 23, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Bellevue Presbyterian Church (belpres.org). In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated, to Scouting America (scouting.org; Paul’s local area was zip code 45414), Clark County Public Library in Dayton OH (ccplohio.org), or Paul’s glider flying club (Seattle Area Soaring Society.com).
