Russell Roy Key

Russell Roy Key, 55, passed away on April 5, 2026, surrounded by love.

Born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Renton, Russell grew into a man defined by kindness, curiosity, and quiet generosity.

He pursued his education with the same thoughtful dedication he brought to every part of his life, attending the University of Washington and later earning a master’s degree from Seattle University. Russell spent most of his professional career in the biotechnology industry, where he applied his talent for data analysis to support meaningful scientific work and help advance discoveries that mattered.

A devoted husband to Donna, and cherished son of Robert and Rosemary, Russell carried a gentle spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Russell found joy in astrophotography, capturing the night sky with a sense of wonder that never faded. He was an accomplished fencer and an avid golfer, pursuits that reflected both his discipline and his appreciation for challenge and focus. At home, he loved to bake, especially anything that involved chocolate, a simple pleasure he delighted in sharing with others.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, his parents, Robert and Rosemary, his brother, Roger, Roger’s wife, Amy, and their children, Hannah and Logan, all of whom will carry his memory forward with deep affection.

A memorial service celebrating Russell’s life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bellevue Church of Christ.
Russell’s warmth, creativity, and gentle spirit leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of those who loved him. His memory will continue to shine quietly and steadily, like the stars he admired so deeply.

I was so saddened to hear of Russ’s passing. I was lucky enough to work with Russ several times over the years. He was truly a kind and gentle guy. Always helpful. Always gentle. Always friendly. Working with Russ wasn’t really ‘work’, as he somehow made everything fun. I enjoyed every minute I had with him.

My best to Donna and his entire family during this difficult time. RIP Russell. You did good.

Shocked and saddened to learn of Russ’s succumbing. We spent many years together on the rocking tides of the pharma research industry. Joking and theorizing over what the latest business model will expect of us nerds. His insights were always insightful and comforting. A good friend in the ‘trenches’ of business. (he’d even be amused that comments here would require a ‘captcha’) I’m better for having spent some precious time in his company. A great loss.

Some neighbors become friends, and some friends become part of the fabric of your daily life. Russ was both. Seeing him nearly every day, we never imagined how deeply his absence would be felt — but losing him has reminded us just how much one person can mean to those around him.

Russ was the soul of our neighborhood, having called it home longer than anyone. His kindness was effortless, his intellect quiet and remarkable. Whether he was unraveling the secrets of distant galaxies through his astrophotography, debating the nuances of a golf swing, exploring the latest in smart home technology, or crafting something wonderful in the kitchen, he brought curiosity and warmth to everything he did.

We are better for having known him, and we will carry him with us.

With deep love and sympathy to Donna and his family — may you find comfort in the many lives he touched.
