Harold Matson of Kirkland, Washington passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born on October 26, 1932 in Chicago, Harold lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to family, service, quiet strength, and lasting kindness. He will be remembered for his steady presence, warm heart, and the care he showed to those around him throughout his life.
Attaining the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, Harold proudly served in the United States Navy for more than 30 years, dedicating much of his life to his country with honor and commitment. His years of military service reflected the discipline, integrity, and sense of duty that defined his character. Upon leaving the Navy, Harold joined Todd Pacific Shipyards where he was dedicated to ensuring high Navy standards in constructing the fleet of Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided-missile frigates.
In 1954, Harold married the love of his life, Ruth Matson, beginning a partnership built on devotion, family, and enduring love that spanned more than seven decades.
Harold was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Matson; his sons, Kenneth Matson and his wife Barbara, and Ed Matson and his wife Pam; and his daughters, Karin Clark and her husband Steve, and Julie Lopez, whose husband Jose preceded Harold in death.
He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great pride and joy throughout his life.
His love, guidance, and unwavering support will remain a lasting gift to his family and all who knew him. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love that will continue through the generations.
Harold will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched.
A memorial service with viewing will be held at Barton family funeral services in Kirkland on May 20 from 3:00 to 5:00. Burial service at Tahoma National Cemetery on May 21 at 10:00am.
