Peter Mason Sr.
August 10, 1950 – December 17, 2024
Peter Mason Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and Vietnam War veteran, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on August 10, 1950, in Bemidji, Minnesota, Peter was the eldest of six children. As the oldest sibling, he embraced his role as a leader and protector, offering guidance and love to his brothers and sisters throughout his life.
In 1969, Peter enlisted in the United States Army and served with distinction during the Vietnam War. His courage, dedication, and exemplary service earned him several medals and commendations, reflecting his unwavering commitment to his comrades and country.
After his military service, Peter lived in many places across the United States before settling in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. Seattle became his forever home, where he found a vibrant community, a deep connection to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and countless opportunities to build lasting relationships.
Peter’s life was filled with rich experiences and meaningful connections. He was first married to Claudia, the mother of his son, Peter Jr. Later, Peter married Sandy, who brought happiness, love, and a deep sense of partnership to his life. Sandy’s children, Derek and Shelly, became a cherished part of Peter’s family, and he loved them as his own.
Peter’s gift for storytelling and his sharp sense of humor made him the heart of any gathering. Whether reminiscing about his military service, sharing family stories, or making friends laugh with his quick wit, he had a way of bringing people together. He also loved boating, finding peace and joy out on the water, where he could relax and enjoy nature’s beauty.
Above all, Peter adored his family. His grandchildren—Madeline, Hazel, Milo, and Kaylee—were his pride and joy. He delighted in teaching them life lessons, sharing laughter, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his son, Peter Jr. (Sherri), and Peter Jr.’s mother, Claudia (Wheeler) Humphries; his daughter, Kristen; his stepchildren, Derek Walden and Shelly Bean (Andrew); his grandchildren, Madeline, Hazel, Milo, and Kaylee; his two sisters, Alice Wendorff and Nancy Nadeau (Kevin); and his three brothers, Doug, Sam (Dawn), and Will. He was preceded in death by his parents, Goldie and Dan.
A Celebration of Life and Military Tribute will be held in July 26, 2025 at the family homestead in Bemidji, Minnesota. Family, friends, and all who knew Peter are invited to gather to honor his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Peter’s honor to Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org) or another veterans’ support program.
Peter Mason Sr. will be remembered as a man of courage, integrity, and boundless love for his family and country. His medals and commendations reflect his selfless service, and his legacy of storytelling, humor, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Peter—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and true American hero.
