Joseph Quinn

Born March 17th, 1934 to Albert and Frances Quinn at Providence Hospital, Joe lived on Capitol Hill for much of his early life.  He attended St. Joseph’s School, Seattle Prep and graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in Economics.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, a much-admired uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and friend, passing away peacefully at the age of 90, His life journey took him from the Pacific Northwest to California and then back to the Pacific Northwest, where he raised his family and touched the lives of many.

Joe spent 4 years serving in the military (Army) and was later discharged having served his country.  He spent much of his time at Fort Lewis and other bases on the West Coast.

He was the loving husband of Mary Jill McGuire, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond throughout their 48 years of marriage. Together, they raised six children and were blessed with ten grandchildren.

Joe excelled both academically and athletically. A gifted athlete, he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football during his high school and college years, leaving a lasting mark on the sports communities he engaged with.

Joseph’s faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He found solace and strength in daily prayer, particularly in his dedication to saying the rosary, which was a cornerstone of his spiritual practice.

As a father, he cherished his children deeply, celebrating each of their unique qualities and passions. He was actively involved in their lives as a coach and supporter, faithfully attending their games and activities as they grew up. His love extended to his grandchildren, whom he adored spending time with and nurturing.

Beyond his family life, Joseph found joy in gardening, leisurely walks, appreciating the simple pleasures of nature and outdoor activities. Joe was a Master Gardener and enjoyed teaching others about growing various berries, fruits and vegetables.  He valued his friendships dearly, particularly with a special group of men with whom he shared many memorable gatherings and discussions over the years.

After the passing of his first wife, Mary Jill Quinn, Joe met and was remarried to Mary Bridget Murphy Quinn, spending 10 years together until her passing in 2019.  Together, they enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends, and the richness of life’s experiences.

He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, his encouraging and positive spirit and genuine love for all who knew him. His legacy of faith, family devotion, and friendship will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives he touched.

Joe is survived by his children, John Quinn (Dianne), Mike Quinn (Kris), Jeannine (David) Needle, Mathew Quinn and Jennifer Quinn; 10 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and his sister Catherine Turner and Phil (Barbara) Quinn.

His parents, Albert and Francis Quinn; Steve Quinn, Frank Quinn, Louise Sifferman his brothers and sister; Joseph Quinn Junior his first son; Mary Jill Quinn and Mary Bridget Murphy Quinn preceded him in death.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Recitation of the Rosary on Monday August 19th at Saint Joseph’s Church in Seattle at 10:00, followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 with reception following at the Church; Internment to Holyrood cemetery in Edmonds at 2:30.

Rest in peace, Joe, knowing that your love and legacy will live on in the hearts of your beloved family and friends forever.

    Joe will be missed by all his family, as well as Bridget’s family. So many friends and classmates from Grade School and Seattle Prep, as well.
