Rev. Daryl C. Wildermuth will be greatly missed for his kindness and thoughtful curiosity about the people and the world around him. He was born on July 14, 1932 in Burns, Oregon to Rev. Clarence and Helen Wildermuth.

Daryl attended Concordia Academy in Portland where he was the Oregon State High School Debate Winner in 1949. He graduated from Concordia Seminary St. Louis in 1957, then traveled throughout Europe as a Lutheran World Federation Scholarship recipient. Upon his return in 1959, he was ordained as a Lutheran minister and called to serve as Assistant Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in San Bernardino, California.

He was deeply in love with his wife Maridee (née Knuth), whom he married in September 3, 1962. They had three children – Daniel, Joan, and Laura.

In 1966, Daryl was called to serve as pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Tacoma where he faithfully served for 34 years. The church grew under his spiritual leadership. Most notably, he helped develop weekly contemporary worship services, the first church to do so in The Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He subsequently traveled to Lutheran churches throughout the US to introduce this invigorating and approachable style of worship.

Daryl was an avid traveler, craftsman, fisherman, and gardener. In retirement, he enjoyed playing racquetball, golf, and the piano, and being with his church community.

Daryl is preceded in death by his wife, Maridee. He is survived by his son, Daniel (Carol), and two grandchildren (Alexis and Jared), and daughters Joan (Crawford), and Laura (Rafal),

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church (4519 112th St E, Tacoma, WA 98446) on Tuesday, March 28, at noon. A lunch reception will follow.

Memorial donations and gifts in honor of Daryl may be given to Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Pastor Daryl Wildermuth was a friend and supporter during my ten years as music and choir director. His smile, demeanor and always friendly conversation are wonderful memories of a faithful man of God. I know the community at Our Savior will miss his presence as we all do.
