Alice Elizabeth Dobry, 61, of Kirkland, Washington passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022, joining her parents in their eternal home.

A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Alice was born in Leonardtown, Maryland to Aliki, an international Greek artist, and Edward, a veterinarian who owned his own practice. She was raised in Lexington Park, Maryland in historic St. Mary’s County.

Alice earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her career journey included the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safety Division, investigating safety recalls with car manufacturers; the Eagle Research Group, a Department of Energy contractor; and a National Weather Service contractor before serving as a landlord managing Kirkland area properties.

She married Andrew V. Kispert, Jr., in 1994 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia. Their 28-year journey took them west to the other Washington, making their home in the Seattle suburbs where they raised Ethan, a multimedia journalist, and Erin, a biomedical engineering student. Their early education included both traditional and homeschooling by Alice, who recognized their individual strengths and interests.

A multi-talented wife, mother and problem solver who enjoyed weighing others’ viewpoints, Alice could have hosted her own HGTV show with her diverse DIY skills and discerning eye—from home repairs to gardening, raising chickens, serving as general contractor on remodeling projects, culinary expertise and all things organic. A self-educator, she figured it out on her own—poring through how-to manuals with a practical approach while tackling projects.

Alice shared her love of nature, travel and exploring the outdoors with her family, enjoying many years of international travel, hiking, camping, fishing the local waters, the ocean and reaching mountain summits. In addition to lifelong exercise, she more recently enjoyed long neighborhood walks with Andrew.

In addition to her husband, Andrew, son, Ethan and daughter, Erin, survivors include two sisters, Mary Dobry and Dorothy Dobry, niece Allison Dobry, nephew Corry McDonald, nephew Christopher Harloe and many family members.

Alice’s fighting spirit and strength endured throughout her treatment for brain cancer (glioblastoma), alongside Andrew’s devoted care. She is named to  The Warrior Wall  by the Glioblastoma Research Organization. Her final act was the gift of eyesight through cornea donation.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7045 120th Ave., NW, Kirkland, WA, 98033, with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery, 5041 35th Ave., NE, Seattle, WA, 98105.
