Mary Ellen Macpherson

Mary Ellen Macpherson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on August 31, 2022. She was born in Glasgow, Montana, to Sigmund and Irene Gucker on April 29, 1939. Shortly after, they would welcome another girl, my mom’s sister Anne. Our mother would stay in Montana til she left for college.

She attended Saint Catherine’s College in St Paul, Minnesota. Our mother would meet her lifelong friends at college. There she would study to be an occupational therapist.

Our mother moved to Seattle, Washington, in 1962 and was offered a job as an occupational therapist at the University of Washington medical center. She was a gentle but steady hand to all her patients.

Our mom would work for Group Health till she retired. Her career as an OT would span over 30 plus years. She loved her patients and truly enjoyed her craft.

She would meet her husband, Allister Emmett Macpherson, at her work. They would marry in October of 1965. They would build a beautiful home in Lake Forest Park. Later they would have two girls. Beth Janssens Lingle and Jeannie Hall.

Our mom loved to play tennis, bake, and garden. She not only taught her daughters her love for baking, but she truly loved teaching her grandchildren as well. She was the best humma, as her grandchildren named her.

Our mother’s faith was strong as she was a devoted Catholic. Our mother enjoyed helping others and volunteered at Saint Francis House and offered communion to the elderly.

In later years she also traveled with our father and then with her 4 college roommates. She truly enjoyed seeing the world. Our mom traveled into her late 70’s! A true inspiration for all of us to see the world!

Our mother was preceded in death by our father. Our mom is survived by her two daughters, Beth Janssens Lingle and Jeannie Hall, and her grandchildren, Curran and Megan Janssens and Chloe Hall. Her sister Anne Wermus and brother-in-law Joe Wermus. Her nephews Christopher and Erik Wermus.

Mom, you truly lived your life with no regrets. You saw and did everything you wanted. We, as your family, were so lucky to have you as ours; You will be missed greatly, mom.

We will celebrate our mothers life with a mass at Holy Roasary, in Edmonds, on September 22,2022 at 11am. Her burial will follow after mass, at HolyRood Cemetary. In lieu of flowers. In honor of our mom, we ask that you enjoy a sticky bun, of course, with extra nuts.
