Burton G Moe

Burton G Moe, age 89, of Kirkland, WA passed away peacefully on May 15, 2022.

He was born on February 13, 1933, in La Crosse, WI to Clarence and Eleanor (Casberg) Moe.  He graduated from Holmen High School in 1951.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in July of 1952, served in the Korean War, and was discharged July 6, 1956.

In June of 1958, he married Marlene Hagen of Westby, WI.  They had two children, Tamra and Daniel, and divorced in 1975.  Burton was employed by North Central Airlines in Oshkosh, WI from 1957 to 1961 when he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller at the Chicago Air Route Traffic Control Center.  He spent the last 20 years of his career as a controller at Gallatin Field in Bozeman, MT, retiring December 30, 1989.  For 7 years, he served as a member of the FAA Operations and Procedures Committee, 5 years as a national committee member, one year as the National Chairman and one year as an advisor to the National Committee.

On October 18, 1979, he married Jan Stokes at a ranch in Montana.  He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and RVing.  He was a scout master for 7 years in Montana, member of the Elks Lodge where he was an Elk of the Year.  He was a member of the NRA, the National Wild Turkey Federation, life member of the Alma Rod and Gun Club, VFW Post 10406 and American Legion Post 224 in Alma, WI, serving as commander 2004-2005.

After retirement, Burt and Jan enjoyed 10 years of traveling the country in their motorcoach, then building their home on Spring Lake in Buffalo City, WI in 1998.

He is survived by his daughter, Tamra Moe (Per Billgren), of Kirkland, WA, son, Daniel Moe (Robyn) of Castle Rock, CO,  sisters Gloria Cassel of Onalaska, WI, and Mollie Kemp of La Crosse, WI, one brother Hjal Jonsen of Spring Grove, MN, sisters-in-law, Vernetta Moe of West Salem, WI and Barbara Moe of Mondovi, WI, and Joanne Moe of Onalaska, WI, granddaughter Heather Flikkema of Waikoloa, HI, grandsons Garrett Moe and Carson Moe of Castle Rock, CO, and great grandsons Rylen Flikkema-Daley and Nalu Flikkema-Nelson of Waikoloa, HI, and 15 nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan, parents Clarence and Eleanor Moe, brothers Art, Homer, Aldin, and Clayton Moe, sister Joyce Urban, brothers-in-law Don Cassel and Verlan Urban, sister-in-law Leatrice Moe, and grandson Brett Flikkema and niece Deborah Cassel.

Cremation has taken place.  His remains will be interred at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI, on a date to be determined, as well as a Celebration of Life.
