LaVerne Marie Benham

LaVerne Marie Benham “ Scottie” 97, beloved Wife, Mother, Nana and Great Nana passed away February 11, 2022 in Bellevue,  WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Douglass and son Brian.  Scottie is survived by her daughter Diane (Tripp) Benham Hook, Granddaughters Heather (Chris) Hook Fabregas and Holly (Matt) Hook Harlow, Great Grandchildren, Hudson Fabregas, Everett Harlow, Hayden Fabregas, George Harlow and Beau Harlow.

Scottie was born February 16, 1924  in Minneapolis MN to Bessie and James Wescott.  She attended University High and graduated from the University of Minnesota in Home Economics.  During college, she worked at Juster Brothers where she met Doug.  She worked at Soo Line Railroad as a key punch operator during the war.  After College, she worked for the Bureau of Home Economics, Cargill and managed a store for Gold Bond.

Scottie loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends.  She loved to play bridge with the Golden Lake Bridge and St. John’s Bridge groups.  She also enjoyed dancing, playing golf and bowling.  She was an exceptional seamstress.  She was a wonderful wife for 66 years and a fabulous mother/grandmother.  She had a wit about her that surprised us quite often.

She will be deeply missed.

A memorial mass will be held on July 7th at Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel, 1 Tower Ave.  Minneapolis 55450 at 10 AM.

Internment will be at Fort Snelling National  Cemetery at 11:45.

Reception will follow at Pool  and Yacht Club, 1600 Lilydale Road, Lilydale, MN.
