He received many awards for his service over the years including Army Occupation Medal-Germany, National Defense, Army and National Guard Good Conduct and many more. He worked at the Olalla and Redmond NIKE missile sites and Fort Lewis.

He loved camping, fishing and horseback riding. He shared with us the importance of family, love, hard work, discipline and service to others.

He led by example and made many sacrifices to ensure we had everything we needed.

When they closed down the Redmond NIKE Site, he transferred to Fort Lewis. He chose to commute from Redmond to Fort Lewis so his family could stay in their home and school.

That sums up the loving sacrifice he always made for his family. Thank you for all the memories!

Smitty was like a big brother to me. Growing up I would spend summers with the family and attend church with them.

He was a teaser and tell me I was his favorite sister-in-law, I was his only sister-in-law. He will always be in his families heart, but will be missed!
