Barbara passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

Barbara was born in Rockford, Illinois, to William and Martha Fowler. She was eldest of three children and is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry R Fowler and Sue Fowler of Sequim, Washington, her niece, Elizabeth Anne Fowler of California, her niece, Amber Fowler Kofoed of Idaho, and her nephews, Anthony Fowler of Idaho, and Jeffrey Fowler of California.

Barbara grew up in and around Rupert, Idaho, where her family owned a farm. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1958, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Traveling and seeing the world was a goal Barbara had. She applied to the Department of Defense and was sent to Mainz. Germany, where she worked as an educator during the late 60’s and early 70’s. She enjoyed traveling in Germany and to neighboring countries during her 6 years there.

After she returned to the US, she earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Barbara was an accomplished educator, co-authoring a manual in the field of special education, doing many presentations on various aspects of Special Education, and working as a special education teacher in the Greeley, CO, school district.

Another of Barbara’s accomplishments was owning a German restaurant in Greeley, Colorado, in the early 1980’s. She loved German cuisine and enjoyed preparing it for others.

In 1989, she relocated to the Seattle area and was employed at the Overlake School in Redmond W A, where she worked as a specialist for students with learning differences. Barbara retired from the Overlake School in 2005. Barbara enjoyed life and loved to travel, boat, ski, cook, do home projects and had an avid interest in technology.

Barbara was loved and admired by those who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

    I was privileged to work with Barbara as a fellow Educator. We developed a close friendship. I respected her so highly.

    I was also privileged to enjoy her yummy German food on many occasions.

    What a gifted lady!!!!

    Barbara was a wonderful friend and an inspiring educator. Her contributions to students at Overlake live on in their successful application of the skills she taught them. I loved her sense of humor and her positive approach. I am very sorry to hear of her passing.

    Barbara was a very positive and supportive coworker. Her smile will be missed! She made beautiful jewelry as well as helping so many teachers and students during their journey in education. Prayers for her loved ones.
