Aurora Arceo Turla
It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Aurora “Baby” Arceo Turla on October 6, 2021 at the age of 85.
Aurora was born in the Philippines on April 6, 1936. She was the first person in her family to obtain a college degree. She majored in Chemical Engineering and graduated from Mapua University and received her master’s at the University of Washington. She immigrated to the United States in 1969 with her husband who she fondly called, “My Joe”. Aurora was very active in the Filipino Community of Seattle. She was an active fundraiser and donor for FCS which honored her by naming a room after her in the Filipino Community Center. She was also the first female President of the Association of Filipino Engineers of Washington (AFEW), which she helped co-found and lead for many, many years. She taught Chemistry classes at the UW Experimental College and Ballard High School and worked for Boeing as a Materials Engineer for 30 plus years. She helped develop and patent various materials that went into building airplanes.
Aurora traveled extensively with her husband and family all over the world. Over the years she built a collection of photos, memorabilia, and accessories from all her travels. She visited the Philippines often and her schedule was often packed with visits, community events, and travel trips with friends who were always so eager and excited to see her.
Aurora was a loving wife, auntie, sister, and friend. She was generous to a fault and helped support numerous family members, no questions asked. For decades, she shared her home in Beacon Hill with new immigrants arriving from the Philippines who needed a place to stay. She became hostess with the “mostest” to many holiday and birthday parties at the Greenhouse, with her husband Joe doing the cooking and Aurora doing the entertaining. She shared their home at Vashon Island for weekly weekend getaways where many hold those times close to their hearts as fond memories never to be forgotten. She absolutely loved good food, halo-halo, ice cream, siopao, music, dancing, traveling with her husband Joe, and spending time with family and friends.
Aurora was exceptionally strong and brave to the end. She lived her life to the fullest with absolutely zero regrets. She did everything she wanted and felt called to do. She NEVER complained and was always grateful for all the love and help that was given to her.
She was preceded in death by Jose Turla, her loving husband of 50 years, her parents, Marcos Inson Arceo and Victoria Ramos Arceo, her siblings Lori Panganiban and her husband Robert, Teresita Ong and her husband Gerry, Bayani Arceo and his wife Emilia, Marcos Arceo Jr., her nephew Joselito, niece Lora.
She will be lovingly remembered by her in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at St. James Cathedral on Friday, October 15, 2021 beginning with a rosary/viewing at 10:00 am followed by a mass at 12:10 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle at 2 pm the same day.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor Aurora’s to St. James Cathedral, 804 Ninth Avenue Seattle WA 98104.

Ate Baby, you will surely be missed by many. We will always treasure our memories with you and Kuya Joe and all the rest of the Green House party participants, over the years. We thank you for everything, especially for opening your house as our regular gathering place. We love you and may you Rest in Peace with our Lord God.
I came to the US in the late 2000 and stayed in Seattle for about 6 months staying with her. I remember her as always being jolly and with a smile for everyone. She always thinks of family first and she’s generous not only financially but also in every aspect in life. I remembered one task I did for her while we were in Alki was to put putty (in each glass item) in her display cabinet. I finished one of the glass cabinet when an earthquake happened saving everything in it 😃
Thank you my Auntie and Ninang for the love you shared in this world. You will be sorely missed. Dance away with Ninong Joe in Heaven.
Rest in peace Ate Baby
Thank you for everything.
My heartfelt sympathy on the passing of my dear friend Babes.
We met over 50 years ago, she and Joe were still courting at Philacor Westinghouse and I was a new hire. We migrated to Seattle after a year and continued our friendship thru Boeing. She was our first true friend away from home. Always kind, helpful and full of joy. Never a dull moment with Baby. She was present at all our kids’ baptisms, graduations and weddings!
Of course we never missed her yearly Yuletide dinners, milestone birthdays and occasional Sunday invites. Joe and hubby Fred were buddies, shared lots of funny jokes and stories. Joe and Baby were family to us from the start of our lives in the States.
I will miss Baby. Rest In Peace in our Lord’s embrace!
Always,
Cristy, Eric, Bambi and Annie

We saw her at church many times and she puts a smile on our faces each time. Thank you for being an inspiration. Rest In heavenly peace in the arms of our Lord, dear friend ♥️🙏.

Along with Heidi we are saddened to hear if “Baby”’s passing. Condolence to the Arceo and Turla families. I am sure she will be missed by many especially those that are very close and dear to her heart. We knew her from my sister in law who also goes to St. George Parish. I have heard how generous and kind she is. May she Rest In Peace!
We love you so much Tita Au. How we wish that we were able to see each other often. You are someone so special and can never be forgotten. You are the most amazing person and the light of our lives. May you rest in peace. We hope you are in heaven with my mom, Shirley. My family’s hearts are with you and your family.
God Bless You Always,
Jen and Keith D’Alessio
Tita Au as we fondly called her was a very loving, kind and sweet friend to our family. She had a special bond of friendship with my mom, Shirley Diaz, for over 6 decades….that even in death, she preceded my mom’s passing by only 6 days. Heaven gained two beautiful & kindred spirits whom we know will be watching over us. Fly high and rest easy dear Tita Au. You will sorely be missed by many. Please send our love to Ninong Joe.
Big Hugs,
Carole & Neil Gonzales
Baby was indeed a special human being. Her accomplishments and contributions to the community are very valuable. Her friendly and ever willing to help was very visible in her interactions with us, members of The People around the World (PATW) Ministry at the St Madeleine Sophie Parish at Bellevue. Her flair for fashion was consistently noticeable; she was always appropriately dressed to the occasion, whether it’s an indoor or outdoor activity of the PATW.
Baby is dearly missed. Our love and prayers go to her and loved-ones.
