Ruth Metzger Andersen, 83, of Mercer Island, Washington passed away Tuesday December 8, 2020.

Born April 1, 1937 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, she is the daughter of the late Fritz Metzger and Berta Hess Metzger of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Ruth grew up in Ann Arbor, where life revolved around the family-owned business, The Old German Restaurant. She graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1954 where she made many lifelong friends. She faithfully attended her high school reunions exclaiming afterward that she was fortunate to have grown up with such nice, funny, and interesting people.

She met her husband, Stig, while he was attending medical school at the University of Michigan. They lived briefly in Oregon and Massachusetts before settling permanently in the Seattle area.

Ruth was an avid tennis player having played regularly with her friends. She also enjoyed travel, having been to Europe, Costa Rica, and Mexico, along with many trips back to her beloved hometown, Ann Arbor.

Ruth discovered a love of learning later in life and returned to school to study interior design at Bellevue Community College, and, later, art history at the University of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Stig Budtz Andersen, her brother, Robert Metzger and her sister, Berthilda Wittke. She is survived by her daughter, Kirsten Andersen of Issaquah, WA, her son Peter Andersen of Kirkland, Washington, her beloved grandchildren, Alexander Andersen and Skyla Andersen, and family in both Ann Arbor, Michigan and Mercer Island, Washington.

Due to current circumstances with Covid-19 there will be no service.
