Maureen Swanson

Maureen Swanson passed away July 10, 2020 of natural causes.  She was born September 25, 1944 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Evelyn and John Philbin.

Maureen graduated from Penn State University in 1966 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and moved to Seattle for a job with Boeing.  At Boeing, she met her husband, Richard (Dick) Swanson, who precedes her in death.  Maureen and Dick built their home in North Bend, WA when it was considered the country.  Maureen loved the environment of North Bend, watched it grow and met a lot of people along the way, all of whom miss her.

Maureen and Dick enjoyed sports cars rallies, sailing, opera  and the Northwest Chamber Orchestra.   For many years they bred, raised and showed Irish Wolfhounds, establishing Belmullet Kennels in North Bend.  Maureen  was very active in the Irish Wolfhound Club of Puget Sound and was “mom” to many a wolfhound, her favorite breed.   She was instrumental in rescuing Sean, her last wolfhound, from South Korea.  Recently she affiliated with Greyhound Pets  to adopt a pair of retired racing greyhounds.  She shared her knowledge and love of dogs with many.

Maureen was a lifelong engineer, an avid reader and supporter of Seattle libraries, lover of opera and classical music and wine connoisseur.

A private memorial was held due to the COVID-19 virus.

Remembrances may be made to Greyhound Pets, Inc  of Woodinville, WA or  Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation.

We will always cherish you! Thankful for all of the advice and love you have shown me. Sadly there is a big hole especially with mom and dad that will be hard to fill. I know you are in a better place and hope to make you proud in my limited years remaining. Know I will make you proud. Love you and save me a good seat up there.

I still can’t believe you are gone. Love and miss you, pretty sure you are hanging out with all of your dogs and husband, living the dream. See you sometime. . .

You’ve left us to walk in the light of a different day, but you’re not forgotten. I made a donation in your name today to the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. Rest in peace, Been.
