I just found this as I was doing research for my Memoir book. Mark and I were good friends when he lived in Toppenish, WA. We used to enjoy listening to music after school. His family was our neighbors on the east side of Toppenish. We used to call Mark “Markie.” He used to always be dressed up.
After middle school, I lost contact with him. I still see his aunt Mona occasionally here in Yakima. She is a good friend of my aunt, Lupe.
My condolences to whoever is reading this for your loss.

We were searching on line and found Mark’s story. Our mom was Mark’s mom sister. We offer our sincer condolences to Mark’s family. Mark was a great cousin and caring person. I remeber Mark had a serious rock-album collection. He was definitely serious about the BEATTLES and Star Track! Mark’s record collection was amazing. (When our families visited Mark’s Greenwood neighborhood home, Mark’ cousins – [me and my sister 🙂 ] – felt so “cool” listening to Mark’s Beattle albumns.) Mark patiently explained to us the most popular bands of the 1960s. He was definitely a John Lennon fan. We were told Lennon is the brains behind the Beattles. Mark was really smart and a leader. In high-school, Mark’s opinion on a political issue was published in the local newspaper. His family and our family was so proud of Mark. We will always remeber holidays in Toppinish at grandma’s house, especially when Mark and our many cousins, aunts, and uncles were able to celebrate holidays together. Holidays at grandma’s house were special. I recall one Toppinish Thanksgiving with most uncles, aunts and cousins. We shared a huge turkey in grandma’s tiny two bedroom home. Later, Mark and his sister took the younger cousins to the Toppinish movie theater. We felt so grown up. Mark was a kind soul. We wish Mark’s family well. Sincerely, Mary Vargas
