Jane Marie Steranka

Jane Marie Steranka

On Friday, August 24, 2018, our beloved Jane Marie Steranka passed away peacefully at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Washington after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jane leaves behind her husband of 32 years, Mark, and five loving children, Collin (28), Justin (27), Jordan (25), Rachel (23), and Sarah (20). Jane is the Daughter of John and Mia Bassler and sister of Mary Ann, Elly, Suzy, Don, Carl, Louie, Tom, Nicky, Laurie, Lynn, and Jeff. She will join her parents and sister, Laurie, in heaven.

Born on April 30, 1962, Jane grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. She attended West High School in Anchorage and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Mathematics. After meeting at Notre Dame, Jane and Mark were married on August 22, 1986. They lived in Boston for three years before moving to Seattle in 1989, with Jane seven months pregnant. Jane stayed home to raise their children, the most important job in the world. She enjoyed playing board games and cards with the kids, watching countless soccer games, baking, running, walking, tutoring high school students in math, and spending quality time with family and friends. She served on school committees and volunteered in their kid’s schools. She was genuine and practical in everything she did. She got her sharp mind and strength from her mom and her quick wit and thriftiness from her dad.

Memorial services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (2316 180th St SE, Bothell, WA 98012) at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 31, 2018, followed by a reception in the Parish hall. Bishop Eusebio Elizondo will be presiding over the mass. Her final resting place will be Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington. If you want to provide flowers for the mass, some of Jane’s favorite flowers include pink and orange tulips, gardenias, and freesias.
