James Gunn

James Arthur Gunn was born in Seattle, Washington on October 15, 1926, graduated from Arlington High School and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Washington. He worked at The Boeing Company from 1948 to 1987 and was instrumental in the formation of the Computer Center at Boeing during his employment. He was called out of retirement to manage the smooth transition of information which placed the “paperless” airplane on the Boeing aerospace map. He was part of a team which eventually presented this to Congress.

After retiring from Boeing, he worked with his wife, Gloria Gunn, in their shop. Tilden, was a popular and distinctive gift store which became both a business anchor and a social hub for the Capitol Hill community. Jim and Gloria forged a partnership based on integrity, quality merchandise, and unparallelled customer service in a familial work environment. They operated Tilden on 15th Ave. East for nearly 40 years.

Jim’s last two years were spent at the Aegis Assisted Living Facility on Capitol Hill where he was surrounded and cared for by a loving and compassionate staff. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his keen mind, sharp wit, and his wise and gentle nature.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and life-long companion, Gloria Gunn. He is survived by his three daughters Glory, Tracey and Kris and three granddaughters.

I worked at Tilden for about 2 years in 1993-1995 and knew Gloria and Jim well. They were nice, generous PEOPLE! It is hard to meet someone that genuine nowadays. I am so sorry to learn of their departure. RIP.
