Beth Anne (Bauer) Longo, resident of Tomkins Cove for over 55 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 20th after a courageous battle with cancer.

Beth was born on April 14th, 1939 in Manhattan, NY to Frederick and Anne Bauer. She grew up in Eastchester, NY with her parents and loving sister, Jean. It was here that she met the love of her life and husband of over 55 years, Joseph Longo. They dated for 3 years and were married on August 27th, 1960.

After receiving her nursing degree from Mount Saint Vincent’s Hospital, she started working at Saint Agnes Hospital and then Helen Hayes Hospital. Eventually, she became a school nurse in the North Rockland area, where she worked for 22 years. In addition to being a dedicated nurse, Beth was a caring mother to her three children – Jo Anne Hamilton, Michael Longo (Marie-Christine), and Karen Cappabianca (Michael).

Beth had a unique ability to make everyone feel like they were her “favorite” and brighten any situation with her beautiful smile and comforting hug. She was famous for her lasagna and coffee cake, which she would often make for dinner parties with family and friends.

During their retired years, Beth and Joe spent time in both Tomkins Cove, NY and Stuart, FL. She enjoyed swimming in the pool at Pier Point, rooting for her grandchildren at sporting events, and playing cards with her husband. Beth was proud to be very engaged in all of her grandchildren’s lives, even those who lived 3,000 miles away.

She is survived by her husband, three children, and ten grandchildren (Jennifer, Kristen, and Alex Felker and Cody Hamilton; Emma, Lauren, Claudia, and Mark Longo; Michael Jr. and Jenna Cappabianca) and will be greatly missed by all who were touched by her love.

Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish in Stony Point, NY on Friday, April 1st at 10am. Burial at Frederick Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY and reception at North Rockland Social Club in Thiells, NY to follow. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beth Longo Memorial Scholarship c/o PO Box 164 Tomkins Cove, NY.
