Michael John Freilinger

LexmarkAIOScan19Michael John Freilinger, 70, of Bellevue, WA, much loved by his family and friends, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday March 2 after a valiant 3-year battle with cancer.

 

Mike was born October 14, 1943 in Aurora, IL to the late Martha Jane and Otto Peter Freilinger.  He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Engineering.

 

Mike served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls MT.  After receiving an honorable discharge in 1966, he began his 41-year career as a mechanical engineer, designing power plants in the United States and across the world.

 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ida May Watson Freilinger, their two children, Steven Michael Freilinger of Tampa, FL and Suzanne Marie Crooks of Brighton, CO plus three grandchildren.

 

Mike’s funeral mass will be held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Redmond at 11:00am on Friday March 7 with a reception and military ceremony to follow.  He will be buried at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent Washington.

    Mike was one of my best friends growing up in Aurora, but I guess like most, soon after high school we went our separate ways. I still remember the model train setup that he had in the basement of their home on Palace. I’m very sorry for your loss.

    I lived in the Onnen rooming house in Champaign and got to know Mike. He was a great guy.
