September 21, 1944 – November 2, 2013

Joe_2011Saturday November 2, 2013 was a very stormy high wind day.  Joe and his hunting partner had each arrived back at camp in the early afternoon.  They had returned to the tent and were in the process of settling in when the top of a large tree came down crushing much of the tent where Joe sat.  He died instantly at the age of 69.

Joe was born in Renton, Washington on September 21, 1944.  His parents, Douglas and Helen Gardner, have both preceded him in death.

After graduating from Randle High School, Joe earned a Bachelor’s degree in math at Washington State University and then began a 38 year career with Boeing.  Joe received various recognitions throughout those work years due to his dedicated work ethics.  In 1988 he was honored to receive one of Boeing’s Employee of the Year Awards.

Joe married Shirley Lambson on April 2, 1966.  Once they completed their studies at WSU they settled in the greater Seattle area.  They have lived at their Kirkland address since 1974.

I had the pleasure to meet Joe and see what a wonderful and a great father/father in-law/Grandpa Joe was to Wendy, Tim Cody and Selena. It’s such a loss, but one can rest easier in knowing that he was doing something he loved to do. My thoughts go out to the entire family at their time of great loss.
