Edra Tedford

Tedford christmasEdra Tedford was born on February 19, 1923 and died on March 1, 2013, suffering a stoke following surgery.

 

Edra was raised in Washougal, Washington.  She graduated Valedictorian of Washougal High school in 1941, and was the drum majorette for the Washougal High School Drum and Bugle Core, which Tedford 3cproudly won the state championship in 1939.   Edra was also “Miss Washougal” in the 1941 Rose parade.  She attended WSU and married Joseph Tedford in 1943 as he left for Army Air Corps Pilot training.   After the war, Joe pursued management positions at JC Penney, where she was an amazing partner and support, as he became manager of Penney stores in Mt. Vernon, Seattle, Visalia, and Portland.
An extremely compassionate, family-driven and fun loving couple, they were devoted parents, grandparents and great grandparents, often hosting fun family gatherings at their family beach home in Lincoln City.  Edra is preceded in death by her husband Joe Tedford and their son Jeff Tedford.  She was loved, admired and adored by her children Joe Tedford Jr., Becky Clausen, and Jon Tedford, as well as son-in–law Bruce and daughters-in-law Kathy, D’Ann, Armelle and Patsy”.

Grandchildren Steve Tedford (Holly), Andy Tedford, Ronda Duluoz (Kelli), Jason Tedford (Patricia), Theresa Rubinoff (Greg), Jamie Clausen (Mike Ballnik), and Nic Tedford, all adored her and considered her an important influence and model in their lives.   She was greatly loved, as well, by great grandchildren  Nathan, Joshua, Jacob, Julia and Patrick , Xander, McKenna and  Jesse.

 

Edra was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2000, but remained alert, engaging, kind and fun, recognizing family and appreciating visits, outings, family gatherings and the quality loving care she received at the Weatherly Inn where she lived.  Edra was a uniquely kind person whose ready humor, intellect and wisdom was a blessing to her family.  Edra will be remembered with fondness and admiration.

A family service is planned for early April.

    After my texts about Edra’s personality, intact with jokes and insights shared in the slightest whisper the last week of her life, my daughter Ronda said about Grandma, “Mom, you picked a good family.” Edra and Joe would be proud.
