Elizabeth Catharina Nieuwenhuis

Elizabeth Catharina Nieuwenhuis, 63, died on Monday, June 18, 2012 in Kirkland, WA after a valiant two year fight with uterine cancer. Betty Nieuwenhuis was born on June 29, 1948 in Velsen, The Netherlands to Jan and Maria Spronk. Betty was raised and educated in Velsen Noord, The Netherlands where she would meet her eventual husband, Rudolf C. Nieuwenhuis. Rudy and Betty immigrated to Canada and were married on June 29, 1968 in New Westminster, BC. They eventually moved to the United States in 1989 to Washington State.

In her professional career, Betty was an extremely dedicated and talented nurse and would enjoy volunteering at Overlake Hospital even after retiring from the profession. She also enjoyed supporting her husband in the wine industry, and working at QFC on Redmond Ridge for the last 5 years. Betty will forever be remembered as a generous and caring woman who enjoyed helping people. She also had a tremendous love for her children and adored raising them.

Betty enjoyed gardening, reading, the occasional visit to a local casino and watching her favorite British soap operas. She loved weekend excursions with Cannon Beach, OR being her favorite destination. With her love for Wisconsin Football, her Autumn Saturdays were usually dedicated to cheering on the Badgers.

Betty was a beloved wife, friend and mother. If love alone could have kept her here, she would still be with us. Betty is survived by her husband, Rudolf C. Nieuwenhuis of Bothell, WA and one son, Jared M. Nieuwenhuis of Bellevue, WA. Betty was preceded in death by her youngest son, Ryan W. Nieuwenhuis. A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10021 NE 124th Street, Kirkland, WA 98034 at 1:00pm on June 25th with a reception to follow. The family requests that expressions of sympathy and donations in memory of Betty, take the form of contributions to the Gene & Irene Wockner Hospice Center (http://bit.ly/NIuFOU) at Evergreen Health Foundation, 12040 NE 128th St., MS#5, Kirkland, WA 98034.

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalm 73:26 NLT

We are so terribly sad and sorry for your loss. Such a beautiful, loving woman…passing much too young! Her spirit will remain always; we’re sure you’ll hear her cheering on the Badgers this Fall! Thinking of you and yours during this difficult time. Remember she will be with you, and she would NOT want you feeling sad!
