SAM ELFENSON
September 13, 1928 – March 25, , 2012
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Sam died peacefully March 25th, 2012.
He was born September 13, 1928 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Leon and Pauline Elfenson. In 1950 he moved to Trail, British Columbia to play hockey where he met Angela (Recchi) and they were married September 1st, 1952.
In 1954 Sam and Angela moved to the United States and in May 1960 received their American citizenship. They lived in Spokane, WA, Missoula, Mt., Portland, Or., and in 1973 moved to their present home in Redmond, WA.
Sam was a true lover of the “great” Northwest, he thoroughly enjoyed touring by car to all the scenic spots and during his working years in Alaska felt it was just a continuation of our beautiful part of the world. Sam worked in the industrial coatings industry for 35 years, retiring in 1994 and then continued doing some consulting and inspection work for several years thereafter. He was an active life member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and was a past president of the local chapter.
Bicycling was for years Sam’s athletic pastime; he rode in several 100 mile rides and was very active in Team Washington at the velodrome in Redmond Marymoor Park. He not only participated in the races, he served as a team coach and as a chief referee as well. Cruising was Sam’s idea of a great vacation and he and Angela cruised most Caribbean ports, Mexico, Bahamas, Australia, New Zealand and the Panama Canal and he made friends everywhere. Sam was predeceased by his parents, brother Leonard and sister Betty. He is survived by his wife Angela, son Danny, daughter Connie and three grandchildren, Dallas and Domenic Elfenson and Chantze Wozow, numerous family members and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 10526 – 166th Avenue NE, Redmond, WA., Friday, April 13, 2012 at 2:00PM. Reception following the service.
