Christina “Chris” (Lathom) Hurst, born February 25, 1948, in Inglewood, California, died August 19, 2026, in Seattle(Edmonds), Washington. She is survived by her husband, Don Hurst.
She was the daughter of Jean Willard Lathom (December 14, 1921, Oakland, California – March 27, 2011, Rosemead, California) and Patricia Green Lathom (October 30, 1925, San Francisco, California – April 21, 2001, San Marino, California). She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Jan Lathom.
Chris spent 25 years at Southern California Edison, retiring in 1996. She began as a Home Economist in the Marketing Department, later served as an Energy Services Representative in the Energy Management Department, and finished her career on the Energy Management staff, analyzing and designing energy-management programs. She earned an M.B.A. from the University of Redlands.
Colleagues remembered her as well respected by peers and supervisors, a consistent team player who exceeded goals and expectations. Those who knew her described her as thoughtful, cheerful, and full of energy.
After retirement, Chris loved collecting antiques. She found them at estate sales and antique malls and inherited pieces from family. She also collected insulators from power poles and from the Grand Coulee Dam.
Chris was especially partial to toy white poodles. According to her husband, there were many over the years—sweet, playful, and a nuisance.
Those who knew her will remember her energy, her eye for a good find, and the poodles that always seemed to find her.
The Hurst family does not request flowers or gifts. Those who wish to honor Chris may consider a donation to the ASPCA.

I had the privilege and honor of knowing and working with Chris at Southern California Edison. Not only was she a great employee, but she was also a great person and friend. After retirement from SCE that friendship continued. I looked forward to her emails which were funny and insightful. Chris is truly missed by me and many others. I am fortunate to be friends with her husband Don. I now look forward to his emails! I am praying for Don.
I knew Chris through my husband, Mike Aversa who worked with her at Edison. After retirement from Edison my husband and I, along with Chris, studied antiques at The College for Appraisers. After graduation we began holding estate sales where Chris and I worked together as cashiers.
She was so much fun as she kept us and the customers laughing. She was a joy to be with and I always looked forward to being with her. What I love is that we will be friends forever in Heaven! We love Don too and are praying for him.
