It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kindra Surber, who died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland after a courageous 3½-year battle with breast cancer. She was 62 years old.

Born June 18, 1964, to David and Jeanne Kelly, Kindra grew up in Bothell with her four siblings. She graduated from Bothell High School in 1983 and later earned an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Development from Bellevue Community College. On October 28, 1994, she married Michael Surber. The couple soon settled in Woodinville, where they raised their two sons, Nicholas and Austin.

Kindra dedicated more than 40 years to childcare, touching the lives of countless children and families with her warmth and care. In recent years, even while battling cancer, she found great joy in caring for her grandson, Jalen.

She cherished annual camping and fishing trips with her family, loved decorating and celebrating every holiday, and delighted in hosting gatherings at home. Halloween was her favorite—she always looked forward to dressing up.

Kindra is survived by her husband, Michael Surber; sons Nicholas Kelly (Stephanie) and Austin Surber; father David Kelly; siblings D. Michael Kelly (Sandy), Kerry Hicks (Jerry), Kathy Stobb (Mark), and Krista Kelly; grandson Jalen Kelly; and 22 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanne Kelly, and nephew Cody Reed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 18, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Crystal Lake Lodge in Woodinville. Guests are asked to carpool, as parking is limited. 23909 Crystal Lake Rd, Woodinville, WA 98077.
