Joan Marie Kelley Carney passed away on August 23, 2026, after a lengthy battle against multiple sclerosis. Joan was born on August 26, 1958, in Meadville, PA, to Catherine Mahoney Kelley and James Frederick Kelley. Joan moved with her family to Sayre in 1965 and graduated from Epiphany School in 1972, graduating from Sayre High School in 1976, where she had many friends and enjoyed her wild days of youth and good health.
Joan ventured west to California in the late seventies and married Timothy Carney on July 22, 1989, in a lovely California wedding. They later moved to Bellevue, Washington where she lived the past 36 years.
Joan will be missed and never forgotten by her siblings, Jim Kelley of New York and Lorie Kelley Petrosky (Chuck Petrosky) of Bellevue, WA; and nieces Maureen Smith of Sayre and Syreeta Sargent Davis (Zach Davis) of Chadds Ford, PA; and nephews Ryan (Ely Ess) Petrosky of Germany, and Ben Petrosky of Bellevue, WA; and her cousins, the McMahon’s, FitzRoy’s, Flanigan’s, and Mahoney’s.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Timothy Carney, her parents Catherine and James F. Kelley, and her sisters Theresa Kelley Smith and Mary Catherine Kelley.
Funeral arrangements will be a private family event, as per Joan’s wishes. In leu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
