Susan “Sue” Marie Hendrickson passed away on June 18, 2026, just days after celebrating her 84th birthday.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck Hendrickson, in 1998, and by her cherished son, Matt Hendrickson, in 2020.

She is survived by her daughters, Heidi Hendrickson Khoury (Samy) and Amy McCarthy (John), and by her eight cherished grandchildren – the McCarthy grandchildren: Jack, Emily, Molly, Owen – and the Hendrickson grandchildren: McKenna, Cameron, Kolby, and Travis – who all affectionately knew her as “Nana Zoom.”

Sue graduated from Roosevelt High School and continued her education in both Pullman, Washington, and Hawaiʻi. She and Chuck built Hendrickson Construction together, where she was an integral partner in the family business. Later, Sue combined her creativity and eye for design as the owner of Inglewood Interiors.

The last 18 years of Sue’s life were marked by a long struggle with mental illness. While it changed many aspects of her life, it never erased the remarkable woman she was—a loving mother, devoted Nana, talented businesswoman, and someone whose laughter, kindness, and vibrant spirit touched countless lives. Those who knew and loved Sue will remember the joyful years that defined her far more than the illness she courageously endured.

Sue embraced life with laughter, style, and a delightfully silly spirit. She loved music, and nothing got her moving quite like “Brick House” by the Commodores. Rarely without a comb and her favorite lipstick, she always liked to look her best. Whether she was singing along, dancing in the living room, or jammin’ in her white Cadillac, Sue brought joy, warmth, and laughter wherever she went.

Summers at Lake Chelan were among Sue’s happiest times. She loved relaxing on her floatie, soaking up the sunshine—but everyone knew one important rule: never, ever splash Sue while she was on her floatie! Her lemon bars were a summertime favorite, while her Christmas Rocky Road fudge became a treasured holiday tradition that family and friends looked forward to every year.

Though she is deeply missed, Sue leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories, laughter, and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. We find comfort in imagining her reunited with Chuck and Matt—her two blue-eyed boys.

We have always believed Chuck lets us know he’s near when the doves appear. Now, we’ll look for Mom in the sun-rays. Whenever the doves gather or a ray of sunshine finds our faces, we’ll smile, knowing they’re together again.

A Celebration of Sue’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Khoury Residence, 202 5th Ave W, Kirkland, WA 98033.
