Barbara Blundell

Born into this world on 1/31/1929 and departed from it on 10/21/2025

Barbara Blundell, nee Gwendolyn Aloise Schmitter, was born in New Jersey to parents, Mabel Curtis and Harry Schmitter. Barbara had one sibling, Robert Edison Schmitter.

Barbara was primarily raised by her mother in San Diego, California. She married at a young age and from that union gave birth to two daughters, Virginia Caroline Erickson (Gina) and Patricia Anne Haight (Tish). This first marriage did not last but she remarried in 1957 to James (Jim) Joseph Blundell Jr. (8/31/1924- 12/5/2010) a loving relationship that endured until his death. Barbara and Jim raised four more children, James Joseph Blundell, the 3rd (Joe), Dannee Blundell Heitlauf, Timothy David Blundell (David), and Andrew James Blundell (Jamey).

Jim’s construction career led to many moves but neither he nor Barbara hesitated to pack up and move wherever Jim’s work took them. In addition to raising her children, Barbara had a successful career as a real estate agent. She also once owned a consignment shop, later working in several others.  Barbara was always into the latest fashion and boy did she love to shop!

Barbara was an excellent seamstress. She made clothes for her family, their dance outfits, and their doll clothes. Her creativity also shone through in her gardening. For her children she was both a Camp Fire Girls and a Girl Scouts leader and participated in many Boy Scouts activities. A love of animals led Barbara to welcome many four-legged friends into the Blundell home. And an appreciation of music education ensured that her children had lessons. These were her gifts.

Barbara never missed a Lawrence Welk show or should we say, “shooh”! She loved reading about anything historical and also kept up with current events. With her excellent memory, she retained all the information. Those were here serious pursuits but Barbara also sure loved to laugh!

This fiercely independent woman now joins her beloved husband, Jim, and will be lovingly remembered by her family . . . Gina, Tish, Joe, Dannee, David, and Jamey as well as her 9 grand-children and 7 great grand-children.

~Farewell Barbara~
