Joani DePree

Joan Lou DePree (Joani), of Seattle, WA went to heaven on February 6, 2025, where she was enveloped in the arms of Jesus and her loved ones.

She was born in Holland, Michigan on June 20, 1946 to Gladys Huizinga DePree and John Bernard Depree.  The family soon moved to Seattle, WA which Joan proudly called home, while Holland remained in a special place in her heart.  Joan returned to Holland to graduate from Hope College and pursued a career in elementary education. For ten years she was an elementary teacher and guidance counselor in the greater Grand Rapids area.  She returned to Seattle to care for her parents, and then was an invaluable friend and care giver for Betty Vuylsteke and her son Craig for many years. Thus began a second career as she devoted herself to caring for many others as well as their pets, loving them all.

Joan was predeceased by her parents and her sister Judith (Judi) Lynn Depree Bradshaw (Kim) and her sister Jean Elena DePree Brace (Harry).  Celebrating her life are nieces and nephews:  Lori (Steve) Kadau, Steve (Chris) Brace, Karin Brace, Jeff Bradshaw, Mark Bradshaw, Julie (Mark) Dollarhide, and their families.  Also grieving are brother-in-law Kim Bradshaw, Godson Chris Westervelt, the Keeler family, the Vuylsteke family and the Westervelt family.  Additionally, Joani is mourned by the many great nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.

Joani was well known for her strong Christian faith, her unfailing devotion to the importance of family, her caring for others, her rooting for Seattle sports, and her fondness for all things Dutch.

Condolences may be posted on the funeral home website.  The family is especially appreciative of the help and care given by Keith Vuylsteke.  Final arrangements are in the hands of the Barton Family Funeral Service of Kirkland, WA.  (Bartonfuneral.com) Burial will be in Holland, MI and memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
