Jon was born September 18, 1952, in Kirkland, WA. He resided there with his parents, Lloyd and Alice (Kirkman), and sister, Karen. In his youth he played baseball, basketball and golf. Jon worked at the Juanita Golf course and had his own lawncare business. He graduated from Lake Washington High School in 1971, then received an AA degree from Bellevue College. For his convenience and in between fishing sessions, he occasionally wore his hip waders to class. He worked at Mutual Materials for over 40 years, where he took pride in his work as a warehouse foreman and inside salesperson. There, Jon acquired lifelong friendships and acquaintances.

In January 1976, he married Diane Polivka and moved to Bothell, WA. They built their life together over 48 years. He had two sons, Justin and Erik. Jon loved to coach, guide and support them through all their activities. Now that passion has transferred to his grandchildren. He attended their activities as their #1 fan.

Travel was a family adventure, especially in retirement. He took pride in saying he had visited a location or experienced an event.

Jon had inaugural tickets to the Seahawks, but always considered himself a 49’r. Nascar was a weekend necessity, especially after attending the Daytona 500 in 2016. Above all, Jon’s lifelong passion was fishing. He was an avid Steelhead and Salmon fisherman. He especially liked fishing the rivers from the banks or in his jet sled. At retirement he bought a larger boat and was learning how to crab in between fishing for salmon. He especially loved sharing his knowledge and expertise with his family and friends.

Above all, Jon liked to make people smile and laugh with his antidotes and stories. He leaves behind his wife, Diane; son Justin, his wife Mary, grandsons, Mason and Jaxon living in Moorpark, CA; and his son Erik, his wife Jennifer, granddaughters
Ava and Madisyn of Monroe, WA.

A Celebration of Jon’s Life will be held from 12-2pm, November 2 at McMenamins Thorndike Room in Bothell.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Hospi
