Gregory Paul Sckorohod

Greg passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2024 in Redmond, WA at the age of 76.

Greg was born August 4, 1947, the first child born to Anatole (Tully) and Mary Sckorohod in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were first generation American from Russian, Polish, Austrian descendants. Family gatherings around the dinner table often involved Russian food and traditions. The family lived in Cypress Hills Housing Projects in Brooklyn, New York. Greg attended East New York Vocational/Technical High School, an all boys’ school graduating in 1965. The family attended the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Brooklyn with Greg being an altar-boy during his youth.

At nineteen years old, Greg enlisted in the Army after receiving his 1-A draft notice (Vietnam era: first available for service). In 1967, his Basic Training was Fort Jackson, South Carolina, then Fort Gordon, Georgia for advanced training. In 1968, he was sent to Fort Carson, Colorado Springs and worked in the supply department. At the end of 1968, the Army sent him to Fort Holabird, Maryland for Military Intelligence Training. He then returned to Fort Carson, Colorado Springs and worked in Military Intelligence until his honorable discharge in 1970.

Greg returned to Brooklyn and attended Bernard Baruch College of Business—The City University of New York obtaining a degree in Business Administration in 1974. In August 1975, Greg decided it was time to leave the big city and return to Colorado where he loved living during his Army days. The mountains and open spaces were calling. He landed a job with Nobel Foods, later becoming Nobel/Sysco, as a buyer. He met Chérie Allemand right after they both arrived in Denver and a year and half later they married December 1976. Together they had three devoted children.

Greg found his love in the Seafood Business by accepting a position with Seawest Industries and the young family moved to the Seattle area in 1982. He continued in the seafood business with Trident and Orca Bay retiring in 2013 after a long and rewarding career that he thoroughly enjoyed. Greg loved his family deeply. He loved skiing, hiking, hunting and fishing. Greg left this world loving His Lord and Savior and knowing he would again see his family and loved ones and behold his crown.

Memorial service was held June 1, 2024 at Cedar Park Chapel of the Resurrection in Bothell, Washington. Eulogies given by his wife, Chérie, son and daughter.

Gravesite service was held June 3, 2024 at Tahoma National Cemetery with military honors.

Survived by: His wife, Chérie Allemand Sckorohod, their three children (Greg, Alex, Sonja) and spouses, four grandchildren, sister, Suzanne (Mark) Garnder, nephew Ian, and niece, Kristen and their spouses.
