Lucille Takahata

Lucille died peacefully in Redmond, Washington.  She was 96 years old.

She was born, in Kure, Japan, to Hojin and Eku Maruoka, and had three brothers and three sisters.  In 1949, she met her husband, Saburo, who was a US Army Sergeant stationed in Tokyo, Japan.  They married at the American Consulate in December 1950.    They made many moves – from Japan, the west coast to the east coast of the United States while raising three children.  They spent their retirement years in the communities north of San Diego.  After Saburo passed in 2004, she spent a few years in San Jose, CA. Finally, she settled in Redmond, WA for the remainder of her life.

During her working years, she held a variety of office/secretarial positions, and eventually had a successful career in retail for many years, as a department supervisor.

She had a variety of interests which included music, dancing, art, sewing, crocheting, gardening, travel, and spending time with family.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to those she held close.  She will be greatly missed.  We derive comfort that she has joined our Lord in Heaven.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Saburo, and is survived by her three children – Lana, Richard, and Cheryl; four grandchildren – Richard, Thomas, Stephanie, and Olivia; and one great grandchild – Baker, and extended family in Japan and Maui.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Graveside services will be held at Arlington Cemetery in Washington DC, date to be determined.
