Wanda Cochran

Wanda Cochran went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2023.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Boyd and her eldest daughter Jo, 4 grandchildren, Shaleena, Robbie, Christina and Amy, 2 great grandsons, Tyler Jr and Travis, her sister Laverne and her husband Tom, twin brothers wife Sharon, nieces Debbie Rainey, Barbara, Sheila, Geraldine, Cindy, Cheri, Sandy and Nancy. Nephews Ricky, David Kenny Allan, Jerry, Stephen, Tom and Dan and an extended family of relatives, friends and neighbors from every walk of life.

She is preceded in death by her parents Everett and Alma, her siblings Darrell, Frieda, Garland, Laurel, Gayla, Glena and twin brother Wayne, her daughter Brenda and son Travis.

Wanda and Boyd met on a blind date set up by Dallas, his brother. They had an unforgettable first date and were together from then, never to part for 49 years. Over the years she made time to ensure that people here and in Uganda had clothes, blankets and diapers. She especially loved to bless new parents with a special blanket for their babies. She also made amazing Christmas trays of cookies, treats and peanut brittle to celebrate the holiday with family and friends. Many of us loved her banana bread and zucchini bread or Super Bowl Lasagna. Wanda was a fan of all sports but she especially enjoyed slow pitch softball (where she was an All Star pitcher), bowling, baton twirling (from her high school days). She loved gardening and yard work and was a fierce weeder. She was a seamstress making quilts, nightgowns, costumes, drapery and other decorative gifts. She made wonderful dresses and shirts for Boyd and her while they square danced for several years. She knitted slippers with pom-poms that were often Christmas gifts. She and Boyd loved to travel visiting places across the globe.

They also crisscrossed America to visit family and friends from Missouri to Alaska and all points in between. She was devoted in her faith and loved Jesus. She served her church as a greeter (known for her hugging). She and Boyd visited those in hospitals or who were recovering at home. She opened their home for small group meetings every week for over 20 years to bring fellowship, bible study and prayer to all who came. Wanda chose to believe in the best of those she loved and met. She was an unwavering beacon of generous service to God, and to her Lord Jesus, her family, church and community. May the incredible love and joy she shared be felt and live long through all of us.
