Mary Catherine “Katie” Clack Waltz
October 29, 1941 – June 13, 2023
Katie passed away on June 13, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Seattle on October 29, 1941 and grew up in the Capitol Hill neighborhood along with her five brothers and sisters. They later moved to the Wedgewood neighborhood. After graduating from high school, she married Ron Clack and together they raised four children. Family was the center of Katie’s world. She adored her children, Erin (Jamie), Brian, Megan (Steve), and Jason (Katie), and found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Katie pursued her dream of becoming a registered nurse and obtained her R.N. degree. Katie’s nursing career provided a source of great pride and fulfillment over a span of 30 years. She began her career as a labor and delivery nurse at Stevens Hospital in Edmonds and later worked in family practice and sports medicine. She proudly concluded her nursing career at the Lewis and John Dare Center at Virginia Mason. Katie’s dedication to her patients left a lasting impact on those she cared for. Her years as a nurse also created many lifelong friendships with her colleagues.
Katie was a member of the volunteer Ski Patrol at Stevens Pass, which allowed her children to spend their weekends on the mountain as a family. Her love of skiing continued throughout her life, as she enjoyed many family ski trips to Canada and beyond. In addition, her mountain cabin created a place for many cherished memories. Back home, she was an active parish member at St. Pius X in Mountlake Terrace. She was also a CYO volleyball coach and a passionate runner who enjoyed many 5K and 10K races with family and friends.
Katie later married Dr. Ronald Waltz. Together they shared many adventures as they traveled the world in pursuit of their passions which included white-water rafting, kayaking, scuba diving, hiking, and skiing. With their fellow adventure-seeking friends and family they had more fun than we could ever recount.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Evergreen Hospice for their medical care and compassion, as well as to Katie’s special caregiver and dear friend Mo, along with Hamdi, Sasha, and her brother Bob.
Katie Clack, a loving mother, grandmother, skier, and dedicated nurse, will be deeply missed. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
There will be a Catholic funeral mass in Kirkland WA. Please contact one of Katie’s family members for the details.

My prayers are with the family. Thank you for sharing Aunt Katie’s wonderful story with us. I am greatful to have been able to visit her and the family 1 summer. One which I am blessed to always remember. Especially when she taught me how to go clam digging and we had the best clam chowder. And hiw proud she was of her garden with the peas growing on the string.
Sending my love.

Upon hearing the news memories of Katie’s passing memories cascaded through my thoughts. She was one of those very special women whose kindness and peaceful manner touched lives in a positive way. Her family is a reflection of her powerful influence. I can still hear her voice. What a blessing she was to all. She will truly be missed.
She was a dear lady who is very missed. But I’m happy she is at last reunited with her beloved husband.
