Richard Carroll Winter

Richard Carroll Winter died peacefully at the age of 92 at his home in Snohomish Wa on Dec 1st 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born Feb 10th 1929, Seattle WA son Carl and Betty (Green) Winter.

He attended Lincoln H.S. and was an accomplished boogie/jazz piano player as well as the electric bass and lap steel guitar player. Richard was a student during the late 1930-1940’s of Paul Tutmarc, the inventor of the bass electric guitar.

Richard enlisted in the Marine Corps the day he turned 17 at the end of WWll. Richard re-enlisted in 1951 for the Korean War. S/Sgt Richard Winter was a combat photographer for the 1st Marine Aircraft division (1st MAW), HMR-161. His duty was to document the use of helicopters for the 1st time in combat. This included movement of troops and cargo to the front lines, ferrying wounded to the MASH units and hospital ships, as well as rescuing down pilots behind enemy lines.

After returning from Korea, Richard attended night school and graduated with a BS in Business, minor in Engineering from Seattle University. In 1955 Richard married Gladys Misho of Lake City, Wa

In 1971 Richard and Gladys Winter started R.C Winter & Associates specializing in tilt-up commercial & industrial construction. Gladys was one of the first women in the industry. They retired from the business in 1996. Richard went to work for MulvannyG2 until 2010.

Richard is survived by his daughter Carol (Alan) Anderson of Republic Wa., son David Winter of Snohomish Wa; grandaughters Rep. Jacquelin Maycumber and Dr. Crystal Anderson-Coca; eight great grandchildren. Richard is proceeded in death by his wife Gladys Winter, son Richard “Rick” Winter and brother Vern Winter of Anchorage. Special acknowledgment to David Winter who took care of our father these last few years.

Remembrances may be made in Richard’s name to a local veterans’ support agency or the blood bank in which Richard was a regular donor for over 50 years.
