On Monday, April 26, 2021, Roger Peterson, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 74 at his home in Kirkland, Washington.

Roger was born on February 16, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan, to LeRoy and Adeline (Rutowski) Peterson. He grew up in Scottville, MI, and graduated from Mason County High School where he cultivated several lifelong friendships. He received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his master’s degree from Central Michigan University. He married Patricia (Davis) on Jun 24, 1972 in East Lansing, MI. They settled in Flushing, MI, where they raised two boys, Andrew and Christopher. His career was principally as a systems analyst with General Motors and then with Electronic Data Systems before retiring in 2008.

Roger intensely followed Big 10 sports, always rooting for his favorite Michigan State Spartans. He loved dogs, especially his friendly golden retrievers, Cruiser and then Chief. He golfed in several leagues and put together annual golf outings bringing together friends and family from all corners of his life. Roger and Pat went on many cruises during their retirement before following their children and grandchildren to Washington state where they have lived for the past 5 years.

Roger is survived by his loving wife Patricia, their two sons Andrew (Christine Merrill) and Christopher (Danielle Lamb), five grandchildren (Nolan, Grant, Andrew, Lennon, and Alden), and uncle, Robert (June). He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Adeline, and by his stepfather, Edward Andersen.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 7045 120th Ave NE, Kirkland, WA 98033, on May 7, 2021 at 11 AM. Such a nice picture of Roger and a lovely tribute. Roger was a great uncle and I always enjoyed chatting with while watching the Lions. Much love to all of you.

  • Griffin, Mark, Kerris, and Wake says:

    Roger-

When you and Pat first moved in nextdoor to us here in Kirkland, we did not know what to expect. We had no idea just how kind and wonderful you and both would be to us! And boy did we luck out.

Sadly we will miss your positive attitude and whitty banter and coming to your door every Halloween to trick-or-treat! We all have no doubt that you and Chief are running and playing catch together along with our dog Buddy.

Please know that our family is forever bound to yours and we are here for your beautiful wife whether she likes it or not. Rest in peace dear Roger and know that every time Wake (and now Kerris) hit the ball over the fence or hit a homerun they are doing it for you.

    Our love forever,

    Griffin, Mark, Wake, & Kerris

What a wonderful picture of Roger. It really showed his personality. Ever since our days as roommates in college, I’ve always enjoyed talking to Roger about the MSU football and basketball games. He was such a good MSU fan. I remember him as always being upbeat and in good humor. He was always on the light side. We’ll miss Roger.

It was a rare day to not see Roger smiling at those walking or driving thru the neighborhood in Flushing. So many of the sub division GM family retired around the same time. How wonderful you all were able to move and be close to enjoy grandkids. Wishing you peace and warm memories. Jan and Ron Scholl

My dear friend from high school. I have known Roger from Kindergarten onward. We had good times in HS and continued with our love of cars beyond and into college years. Roger went to Mich State in Lansing and I went to Mich Tech in the UP of Mich. We stayed in touch especially during summer vacations. A great friend and dearly missed. He loved Pat and his Golden Retrievers. Rest In Peace.

It’s been many years but I still remember Mr. Peterson’s voice and laugh onthat rainy September day back in 1993 when he and my father helped Andy and I move into Mary Markley as freshman…. I was really sorry to hear about your dad, Andy, and I’m really sorry I’m just now paying my respects. Your dads memory lives on, even all the way across the country here in Charlotte, North Carolina! <3
