James Michael Lloyd

11/24/1950 – 11/18/2020

Born in suburban, Portland Oregon on Thanksgiving Day in 1950.  Jim was an extraordinary person. He was kind, loving, compassionate, patient, genuine, vibrant, strong and brave. His smile was for all, he never met a stranger. His integrity and giving spirit were legendary and shown through every aspect of his real estate career.  Ensuring his clients were always well taken care of was more important to Jim than the sale itself. His zest for life was an inspiration to many.  His love and devotion for family, friends and community was incomparable as was his love for fitness and the outdoors. He was a standout athlete, an avid sailor, runner, hiker, biker, swimmer and skier. ALS hit him in 2017. He fought the fight against this brutal disease with courage, grace and determination. He made his transition November 18, 2020, at home in Kirkland just before his 70^th birthday. Kristen, Berna, Amanda and Savana were with him as he took his last breath and drifted peacefully to his forever rest. Free of ALS. Free to bike, hike, run and swim in paradise.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kristen; Sister Berna Kieler and brother in-law David Debin; Daughter Amanda Rothe and son-in-law Daylon Rothe, Granddaughter Saylor James Rothe; Daughter Savana Lloyd.

WING ON WING

A tribute for Jim, from his sister, Berna

I was a sailor on the sea of life.

Charting my course to sail “wing on wing”

I captained my boat through choppy waters,

felt for the ebb and flow, dialed into it,

and edged along to find the calm waters.

Sailing wing on wing,

is constant fine tuning, checking your maps,

always moving your boat forward,

trimming, tacking, keeping your sails full and balanced,

seeking the sweet spot.

I learned to commit, persevere, in sport and life,

enjoy the challenge, effort, and strain.

A competition with myself and others,

never giving up, going beyond my limits.

Starting the race, staying in to the end, giving all it took,

grueling, grinding, sometimes grieving, always striving

to find that perfect wind to carry me on.

Sailing wing on wing was always my goal,

That effortless joy of a peaceful channel, after the hard work.

Once you hit the zone, you move with ease.

Slow it down, take notice around you.

Maybe, even change course to hit your glide.

You settle in for the smooth ride you deserve.

Sailing wing on wing,

the sun’s always shining, because you look for it.

There’s always a gentle breeze, because you notice it.

You’re in the moment, no worry, appreciate

It’s working, go with it, float along, be at ease.

Sailing wing on wing

means setting your compass for open seas,

but finding your safe harbor within,

releasing yourself to the current.

Filling your lungs with air.

Letting your breath slowly flow.

Sailing wing on wing

You cruise lightly through deep waters.

Even though your boat might rock,

keep your hand on the tiller.  Stay the course.

Relax now sailor, the wind is at your back.

All is well.  You’re sailing home.
