Reginald “Reg” Lynde Armfield

Reg Armfield

Reg died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes on July 28th, 2018.  He was born in Spokane, WA on September 1st, 1925 to William Walter and Rebekah Armfield who preceded him in death.  Reg attended grade school in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School in 1943.  He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from February 1943 to February 1946 as a 2nd Lt Bombardier on B-29’s.

After the war he attended Whitworth College in Spokane followed by the University of Washington, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He was employed for 35 years by the Standard Oil Company of California, now known as Chevron.  Reg worked in Engineering for 15 years as a Project Engineer and Project Manager on the design and construction of oil refineries.  For the next 20 years, he was involved in Chevron’s Foreign Operations.  He served as President of Iran California Oil Company in London, overseeing Chevron’s interest in the Iranian consortium.  He then served as Manager of Foreign Operations in San Francisco, having responsibilities for Chevron’s interests in such joint ventures as ARAMCO (Saudi Arabia), the Iranian Consortium and CALTEX, operating in 60 foreign countries. Reg retired from Chevron in October 1986.

After his retirement, he returned to his home state, settling in the Seattle area (Redmond).  Retirement also meant more time at his beloved lake home on Priest Lake, ID.  His passion for Priest Lake started with fishing alongside his father and grandfather who had fished the lake since the late 1800’s.  Summers at the lake were filled with visits by family and friends from near and far.

Reg was raised a Master Mason in 1965 and received a 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite in California.  He served on the Board of Trustees of Landmark on the Sound, Masonic Retirement Center in Des Moines, for four years and was dedicated to Landmark’s vision of providing a premier living community for seniors and its goal of serving as the cornerstone of a statewide network providing families with access to services and resources for their well-being.   In 1997, Reg became a Shriner in the Nile Shrine serving as Director of Public Relations, Sultan of the Oriental Band in 2002, Chairmen of the Board of Trustees of Nile Shrine Center and President of Eastside Shrine Club.  He was a member of the Order of Quetzalcoatl, Mukilteo Teocalli Number 111, and the Order of Knights, Eagles & Tigers.  He was a devout Christian and member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church.

Reg’s life was full of travel and learning.  He loved to see the world through his work and traveling with his family.  One of his favorite restaurants to visit was the House of Prime Rib in San Francisco, even to celebrate his 92nd birthday last September.  He enjoyed continuing his education through the Great Courses learning program and doing his daily puzzles as well as constantly reading.  Reg was loved and greatly admired and in turn he loved his family and friends fiercely.  He will be remembered for the true gentleman he was.

Reg is survived by his wife of 44 years, Henrietta, his five children (three from a former marriage): Mike Armfield of Los Altos, CA (Tavie), William Armfield of Wilton, CA (Martha), Karen Thompson of San Ramon, CA, Guy Armfield of Mill Creek, WA and Rebecca Armfield of Issaquah, WA and eight grandchildren: Benjamin Armfield (Kristin), Matthew Thompson (Lauren), Tricia Armfield, Amanda Thompson, Jessica Armfield, Brendan Armfield, James Armfield, Liam Armfield and his faithful dog, Broughton.  His sister, Constance Fisher and brother William Armfield, preceded him in death.

A Service of Thanksgiving for his Life will be held at Bellevue Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 29th, 2018 at 1pm.
