Marilyn Ruth (Worley) Baldwin

Marilyn Ruth (Worley) Baldwin passed away March 9, 2018 after living with the effects of Lupus for many years. Marilyn was born in Washington DC on October 4, 1941, and was raised in Bothell and north Seattle. Marilyn attended Shoreline High school and graduated in 1959. Following that she went to Washington State University graduating with a degree in Education. She later attended the University of Washington for her 5th year of education training.

Marilyn met and (later) married Patrick Baldwin, her husband of 53 years, while at WSU. After spending 3 years in the Army, Marilyn and Pat returned to the Seattle area where they raised two children, son Christopher (Lori) and daughter Kate Baldwin. Besides her husband, son, daughter and daughter-in-law, Marilyn is survived by granddaughters Mackenzie, Paige and Tessa Baldwin, brother Doug (Karen) Worley, sister Linda (Jeff) Fry, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Milton and Ruth Worley.

Marilyn taught elementary school in the Seattle area and also while she and Pat were in the Army. Marilyn was an excellent seamstress, having learned her skill from her grandmother Signe (Alfred) Sundholm. She created numerous clothes for herself, family and friends from patterns she designed. Marilyn was a consummate photographer, taking pictures of family and friends. Numerous people commented they would never have had pictures of their families if it wasn’t for Marilyn’s pictures and the copies she so generously gave to everyone.

Marilyn loved to design and make arts and crafts, even earning a blue ribbon for an entry she had in the Puyallup Fair. Her artistic skills ranged from crafting hand puppets (Sesame Street characters) to macramé to stained glass to quilting that she sold at Arts and Craft sales.

While her children were growing up, she was generous with her time, volunteering at school, helping with Blue Birds /Campfire Girls and like many mothers, taking her kids to the numerous sporting events they participated in. She also volunteered at the Crisis Clinic and at Fred Hutchison (with her husband), helping transplant patients and their families.

For the last few years of her life Marilyn lived at Canyon Park Home Care where she was lovingly cared for by the staff.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home on March 31st. Later Marilyn’s ashes will be interned in the family sight at Holy Cross cemetery in Spokane. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the Lupus Research Alliance, on her behalf, would be greatly appreciated.
