John Stephen Beckmeyer

John Stephen Beckmeyer was born on December 7, 1952 in Tacoma, Washington to Morris and Patricia Beckmeyer. He died on December 16, 2017 in Kirkland, Washington, from cardiac arrest, surrounded by family and friends.   John was predeceased by his father Morris; he is survived by his mother Patricia, and brothers James, Robert and Roger; nieces Jennifer (Elio), Meagan and Kelsey (Max); great uncle to Nicholas and Rowen; and numerous extended family. He also leaves behind many lifelong friends in Park City, Utah.

John graduated from the Utah State University, Logan Utah, in 1980, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Education, and lived most of his life in Park City where he worked in hospitality management at the Stein Erickson Lodge, and the Deer Valley Club. He also became an expert commercial wallpaper hanger, and painter. There is a little bit of skiing in Utah, and John and friends, were experts and knew where to find the best powder and highest cornices. He also enjoyed going on annual river trips in the stark beauty of southern Utah.  John loved his music and enjoyed many concerts in the venues around Park City, Salt Lake City, and later Seattle.

In 1996, John was diagnosed with mitral valve failure and congestive heart failure. The valve was replaced and a regimen of anticoagulants and frequent blood tests began. As the altitude of Park City was affecting his health, in 2007, he moved to Washington state, and lived with his brother Jim in Bellevue. John became Mom’s primary care giver, and he also attended to a variety of needs for his brothers Bob and Roger. Family was very important to John, and he always made an effort to stay in touch with his nieces, and made sure Mom saw her great grandsons.

John left in peace because he lived his life with purpose; which is a legacy we should all be blessed to have. We love you John, and we will miss you dearly.

A memorial service for John will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 16450 Juanita Drive, Kenmore, Washington, on February 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to charity of choice.

John, I cannot thank you enough for your lifelong friendship.
You are a part of my family but you’ve slipped away a bit too soon.
My wife quotes you daily, me-I just miss you (like the James Taylor song “always thought that I would see you again”).
Peace Johnny Boy and thanks for always being there for us, always . . .
