R. Scott Turner

Scottie Turner, devoted and loving son, husband, father and grandfather, age 89, passed quietly on July 21, 2017 in Mukilteo, WA. Known to family as “The Powerhouse Of The World,” Scottie was born March 22, 1928 in Kidder, MO (a small town that looms large in the family history) to Dean and Emily (Scott) Turner. In 1937 the young Turner family moved west to Marysville, WA where Scottie graduated from High School in 1946, and was married to Carol Jean Hein on April 6, 1951 in Everett, WA.

A natural athlete, Scottie excelled in football and track, and attended Everett Community College. The highlight of his athletic career was being inducted into the ECC Athletic Hall of Fame (2009) and the Northwest Athletic Conference Hall of Fame (2010) as a member of ECC’s 1947 championship football team. Following college and a stint with the US Navy Seabees, Scottie established a construction company with his father Dean; Turner Builders- “not the biggest but the best.” Scottie built and remodeled hundreds of homes and small commercial buildings throughout Snohomish County before retiring in 1993.

An avid golfer, Scottie was a long time member of the Everett Golf and Country Club, perhaps enjoying the side bets on the course as much or more than the game itself. Scottie also enjoyed dancing; he and Carol were active members of the Everett Jubilee Club for several years and their children have fond memories of watching mom and dad “cut a rug.” A lifelong philatelist, Scottie amassed an extensive collection of stamps from around the world, frequently traveling to attend stamp auctions. A very generous man, he mentored many in the carpentry trade and treated everyone with respect. His carefree spirit and playful sense of humor will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Survived by his loving wife of 66 years Carol, children David Turner, Roxanne O’Brien and Grant Turner, grandchildren Ryan (Victoria) Turner and Rachelle (Alexa) Rader, Kasey O’Brien, Max and Cary Turner, and cousin Bill (Naomi) Baldwin of Winston, MO.
