Eileen Flewelling
Eileen Flewelling died at home on July 1, 2017, surrounded by family. She was 96 years old.
Eileen was born in Edmonton, Alberta. The eldest of three daughters, she was born to Florence and Louie Larsen and grew up in Leask, Saskatchewan. After high school, she traveled to Ontario where she met her future husband, William (Bill) Flewelling.
In 1962, Eileen and Bill moved from Edmonton, Alberta to Seattle with their seven children. After Bill’s death in 1973, Eileen worked at the University of Washington for many years, mostly in the Grants and Contracts Department.
Eileen is survived by her seven children, Jane (Charles) of Shoreline; Jim (Molly) of Seattle; Bob (Betsy) of Chapel Hill, NC; Peter of Oak Harbor, WA; Cathy (Dan) of Seattle; Anne (Isaac) of Seattle; and Mary (Ciscoe) of Seattle; her twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Rita Marrocco and Ingrid Robin, both of whom reside in Canada.
Besides her Catholic faith, the most important thing in Eileen’s life was her family. There was nothing she would not do for her children and grandchildren. She was greatly loved and she will be sorely missed by all.
Eileen will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor, her independence, and her fortitude. She loved children, knitting, long lake swims, the sport of curling, playing bridge, and was proud of her Canadian roots. It was fitting that she died on July 1, Canada Day.
Eileen’s Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church (6201 33rd Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115) at 10 am on Monday, July 10. A brief reception will immediately follow. Memorial donations may be made to www.contenteddementiatrust.org/.
