John William Burke

Burke1John William Burke, born March 25, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland to John and Lillian (Lentz) died peacefully June 1, 2016 in Lynnwood, WA.  Survived by his wife Carolyn, 3 stepchildren Carol Michaelsen (Rob), Bradenton, FL, Martin Timmerman, Everett, WA, Julie Starkel (Randy), North Bend, WA, his daughter Laura Morgan (Jim), Renton, WA 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  Survived also by his niece Suzann Fairman, San Diego, CA, his sister’s daughter, Dorothy (deceased).

John and Carolyn were very active in the Seattle Swing Dance club in the 1980s-90s and on retiring in 1995 enjoyed over 40 cruises and vacationed in many parts around the world together.  His sense of humor will be missed, as he always had a ready quip of some kind and you could see the sparkle in his eyes that said that something funny was coming that you would not expect at all.  John had Burke2Parkinson’s disease and dementia for approximately 4-5 years and has been in an Adult Family Home since July of 2013.

John will have a private burial at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent where he will receive full military honors for 20 years of service in the Air Force.

A memorial service will be held at Rock of Hope Baptist Church, 7812 224th St. SW in Edmonds, WA 98020 on June 9th, 2016 at 3:00 pm.  In place of flowers, please donate to Disable American Veterans or Rock of Hope Baptist Church, 7812 224th St. SW, Edmonds, WA 98020.

    I miss your smile, the funny things you’d say, and the goofy laugh that was to follow. Thank you for the love you gave and showed my Mom all these years. We kids lucked out and not only got a bonus dad but a friend as well. We love you, rest in peace.
