Maureen Griffin

Maureen Griffin, 80, passed away in the comfort of her home on June 16, 2015 after a brave and courageous battle with cancer surrounded with the love of her family.

Maureen was born in 1935 at Shore Road Hospital in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of Gilbert and Kathleen McGillivray. Maureen and her brother Gilbert spent their early formative years growing up in New York and spending time in the summer on Rockaway beach. Her family fondly called her “Red” for her beautiful red hair. She attended Forest Hills High School where she met and married her husband. In 1957 she and her husband moved from New York to Kirkland, Washington where she raised three children John, Donna and Glenn. Although she left New York, New York was always a piece of her. She never lost her New York accent or attitude and was always happy to talk about it when someone mentioned her accent and asked where she was from.

The neighborhood in High Woodlands was where they built a home and she made lifelong friends with Chung, Dorothy and Mary. Her interests varied and included bible study, crossword puzzles, gardening, FOX news, and a healthy political debate. Maureen was a wonderful friend and mother who will be missed deeply.

Maureen is survived by her three children John Griffin (Jeri), Donna McCrain (David) and Glenn Griffin (Jamie), three grandchildren Ryan McCrain, Kyle McCrain and Brittany Conner (Ben) and great grandchild Reiley Conner.

In the last years of Maureen’s life she was always accompanied by family, friends and caregivers whom she was very grateful for their help and comfort. As the end approached Maureen spoke of looking forward to visiting her mother, father, brother Gilbert, Uncle George and granddaughter Karlee in heaven.
