Rodney Alvin Larson passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on January 25, 1951, in Calgary, Alberta, he carried his Canadian pride with him throughout his life and into the years he spent in the Greater Seattle area, which he called home for the second half of his life.

Rod grew up in Calgary and graduated from Henry Wise High School in 1970. He went on to build a life rooted in family, friendship, and the pursuit of new opportunities. Guided by determination and a deep sense of independence, he met life’s changes on his own terms.

Known for his strong will, unwavering affection for those he loved, an unshakable love of poker, and his ability to be the life of the party wherever he went. A devoted sports fan, Rod especially loved golf, baseball, football and hockey, and he took great pride in cheering on his Seattle teams. Over the years, he sported a mullet more than once – a style few appreciated but one he wore proudly every time.

When his children were young, Rod wrote and sang a song called “Thank You for Being My Best Buddy,” a tune that became a lasting family memory and a reflection of his big heart.

He is survived by his three children – Carrie, Karmin and Kyle – his four grandchildren – Tyler, Lucas, Claire and Theodore – his four siblings – Vicky, Colin, Dave and Jane – and countless friends who were like family. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Theodore Larson, who passed away on the exact same day 34 years earlier.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service. His ashes will be scattered at Edmonds Pier and in Cabo San Lucas – two places that held special meaning for him and his family.

Rod’s favorite song was Bryan Adams’ “18 Til I Die,” a fitting reflection of the youthful spirit he tried to hold onto, even when life got complicated. He may not have stayed “18 ‘til he died,” but he never stopped holding on to that spirit.
