Phyllis Winders Ayers
9/4/1922 – 4/25/2025
Phyllis was born on September 4, 1922 to prominent attorney Charles H. Winders and Anabel Winders. She grew up in the Mount Baker neighborhood of Seattle along with her three siblings Charles H. Winders Jr. Ann Winders Brougham, and Rosemary Winders who all predeceased her.
At 19 she married Naval aviator Maurice Stacy in Florida. She married Edwin F. Ayers in 1969. She is survived by children Leslie Ann Brougham, (Bob Schuck), Bellingham; Laurie Stacy Towe (Richard Coder), Bellevue; and James W. Stacy, (Joanie Hanke), Olympia; and by grandchildren Sydney Markus (Troy Markus), Bellingham; Charlie Schuck (Natasha Felker), Philadelphia; and by a niece nephews, and a multitude of friends.
Phyllis graduated from St. Nicholas School and attended the University of Washington, where she joined the Delta Gamma sorority. For 68 years she was a member of the Seattle Milk Fund, Rebecca Horton Chapter, along with friends from college. She was a member of the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Chapter AC. She was a longstanding member of Mercer Island Presbyterian Church. Several Mercer Island groups, including the ‘Friday Lunch Bunch the Golden Girls,’ and the team at Coldwell Banker benefited from her stellar personality. Phyllis was an avid tennis player for 53 years. She was a welcoming ambassador and captain of the bean bag baseball club at The Garden Club in Bellevue. She maintained a vibrant and optimistic spirit for over a century and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church at 1 :30 P.M. on Monday, June 2nd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NAAF (National Alopecia Areata Foundation), www.naaf.org.
