Svetlana Tumanova

Svetlana Tumanova
Svetlana Tumanova, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at age 79.
Svetlana was born in Amurskaya Province of Russia in the post-war 1946. Even though she was from a small village, she was brave and determined to leave home and study in a large regional university by herself at age 17. She graduated the Far-Eastern State University in Vladivostok, Russia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, majoring in English Linguistics. There were 50 female students in the graduating class and only one male student, who courted her for the entire 5 years of their university life. This is how she met her future husband, Victor.
Svetlana’s career and endeavors took her around the world. Svetlana taught the English-speaking Bengalese students in Bangladesh and the Russian students at the Moscow Pedagogic University. She traveled to numerous countries and found multiple interests and hobbies, from knitting to jogging, to astrology. Fun fact: Svetlana learned to drive at age 50 (and a stick shift at that), not because she needed to, but because she always wanted to learn something new.
She was responsible, dependent, reliable, a goal setter and a go-getter. She earned people’s trust and respect through her hard work, perseverance, and honesty. And she was also creative and ingenious, starting ventures to support her family, not being afraid of failure, but always aiming for success. She was not hard-nosed though; she loved to laugh and had an absolutely infectious and musical laughter.
She was an amazing chef and baker, delighting her family and guests with exquisite cuisine and desserts, her hand-written cookbooks had some of the most amazing recipes with her own flare. Svetlana had an eye for fashion, enjoyed dressing up and would even suffer long walks through her high heels. She also had a keen sense of style and manners, fondness for contemporary design and dislike for vulgarity and decadence.
Svetlana loved walking busy streets and sitting in neat French cafes with white tablecloths. A well-prepared and served breakfast would make her shine even more. Svetlana was a fan of theater and music, while she never had formal music training, she had a perfect pitch and a beautiful singing voice.
When working as an interpreter in South Korea, she found faith and was baptized in the Baptist Christian denomination, in which she remained until her final days.
And most of all, she was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and companion. Even though Svetlana loved her Moscow busy life, where she and her husband spent many years, they moved to the United States to be even busier with their beloved grandchildren.
Svetlana is survived by her loving husband, Victor, her children, Tatiana and Alexander, her grandchildren, Masha, Sasha, and Edward, and other relatives that span two continents. She was preceded in her death by her mother, Maria and her father, Nikolay.
Visitation service will be held Thursday, April 24th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Barton Family Funeral Service located at 11630 Slater Ave N,E, Suite 1A, Kirkland, WA 98034. Flowers can be mailed to this address.
